Search, specials and comparing prices

Pelicart searches your store for every item you send and picks one. Specials, halaal or kosher, brand comparisons and price checks happen only when you ask.

How Pelicart picks

Pelicart picks a product for each item like this:

  • Products you’ve bought before at that store come first, so “milk” gets the milk you usually buy.
  • If an item is out of stock, it adds the closest alternative.
  • It doesn’t ask which brand or size, so say the brand, size and type up front.
  • “The cheapest” means the cheapest of the matches Pelicart found, not always the cheapest in the store.

Misspelt or nicknamed items

Write it the way you’d say it:

stay soft and blue make up wipes

If nothing matches, Pelicart searches for the product type, like “make-up wipes”, and likely spellings, so it can pick the wrong brand. Check what it added.

Specials

Ask for specials on a product, and Pelicart searches only promotions:

any specials on coffee?

It can tell you each deal, like “buy 2 for R50” or the price before the special. It works at all three stores but can’t list every special, so name the product. At Checkers Sixty60 and Pick n Pay, some specials are loyalty-card prices (Xtra Savings and Smart Shopper), and you need the card to get them.

Halaal and kosher

Ask for halaal or kosher, and Pelicart searches only products the store lists as certified, at all three stores:

halaal chicken

If the store has no certified match, Pelicart may add an uncertified product, so check what it added before you pay. Asking covers that request only. To apply it every time, save a preference:

i only eat halaal

For vegan, gluten-free or allergies, Pelicart goes by product names and your preferences. If you have an allergy, check the packaging.

Brands side by side

Ask which brands a store has:

what brands of peanut butter does woolies have?

Pelicart shows 3 products from each of the store’s 6 biggest brands for that product, one store at a time. For more from one brand, name it.

Compare prices between your stores

With two or more stores linked, ask Pelicart to compare:

compare the price of salted butter at woolworths and checkers, then buy the cheaper one

Or ask “is milk cheaper at pick n pay or checkers?” and choose after. When you compare:

  • Pelicart adds the item only at the store you pick.
  • Compare a few items at a time, not a whole list.
  • This isn’t price matching: no store lowers its price.
